How Top or Slop works

Swipe

You see the first screen of a real landing page. Would you keep reading? Swipe right for TOP. Would you move on? Swipe left for SLOP. Then see what everyone else said. Now and then we ask you why.

Submit

Submit your page and judge 10 others while we take the screenshots. Share your invite link and watch the votes come in.

Who counts

Every device gets one vote per page. Votes that come through a page's own share link show up separately and never count for the leaderboard. Votes count for the ranking once a judge has 20 swipes, earlier ones included, but not from judges who swipe almost everything the same way. Judges who often go against a clear majority count less. A page needs 15 stranger votes to get ranked.

Our starter deck

To get things going, the deck includes public landing pages we picked ourselves. They never show up in the rankings, and one of them leaves for every real page that comes in. If one of them is yours and you want it gone, write to remove@toporslop.app (more on Remove a page).

Our bot

When a page is submitted, our bot TopOrSlopBot/1.0 loads it once, opens it in a headless browser and takes up to three screenshots: the first screen, further down and on a phone. It comes back only when the owner asks for new screenshots or verifies the domain. It doesn't crawl links, fill in forms or log in.

It follows robots.txt. To keep it out, add this to your robots.txt; pages with a noai or noimageai robots tag are skipped too:

Privacy

Accounts are optional and there's no tracking: we only count page loads on our server, without cookies. One cookie keeps your device from voting twice, signing in adds two more. We don't store IP addresses. Details in the privacy policy.
